Phoenix UK Ltd Undergraduate Training Programme

In January 2010, Phoenix UK Ltd were really excited to announce the launch of a unique partnership with the University of Portsmouth's department of Creative Technologies. The Phoenix UK Ltd Undergraduate Training Programme (PUTP) was the result of this collaboration. The programme offers undergraduate students, studying for a degree in Computer Games Enterprise, an opportunity to work for Phoenix on a real-live project for one semester of their course. Phoenix provide the guidance and support but the students' do most of their learning through engaging with one of our clients and helping to solve their problems.

The programme ran for the first time last year and was nothing short of an amazing success. The group of students worked closely with a Porthampton based printing firm, PortaPrint, who were experiencing significant business problems. After 12 weeks of hard work, each team of students pitched their ideas and submitted a turnaround report to the client who isnow in the process of integtating these suggestions into a recovery plan. Brian Downey, MD of PortaPrint said, "I think it's fair to say that I was rather nervous and skeptical to begin with becuase I questioned what the students could bring to the table. I can now say, without doubt, that working with them was amazing. They showed themselves to be very creative problem solvers and oddly, having little business expereince proved to be a bonus. They were less constrained in their thinking process and as a result developed some brilliant strategies to help PortaPrint. We are now on route to full recovery thanks to Phoenix and the PUTP teams."

Phoenix are about to start the process all over again with a new group of students. Watch this space to see how they get on.
